Program Areas

The Civil Rights Division investigates complaints of discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations for individuals in Broward County that violate local and federal statutes based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, pregnancy and gender expression/identity. This Division champions the rights of those who might otherwise be denied their civil liberties and seeks to promote tolerance and further cultural and social understanding.

The Internal Investigations and Oversight Division manages allegations of abuse, fraud, waste and other violations of the Broward County Code of Ethics for government entities as well as employment discrimination complaints for County employees and applicants (based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, pregnancy and gender expression/identity). This Division also ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Broward County Cone of Silence and Living Wage Ordinance.

The Small Business Development Division supports the growth and sustainability of Broward County 's small and disadvantaged businesses through the administration of targeted certification, goal setting / compliance, and business services programs. This Division ensures equitable representation for local small businesses on County contracts - thereby assisting in their economic growth - and promotes opportunities for entrepreneurs through County procurement.
