Elderly Services

Broward County Elderly Services has been providing County sponsored and grant funded programs to residents since 1977. The goal of this section of the Elderly and Veteran's Division of the Human Services Department is to assist physically and psychiatrically impaired elderly residents to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.

Programs
 
Community Care for the Elderly
Provides a service continuum to functionally impaired, low income adults 60 years of age and older who are at risk of premature nursing home placement.

Services include:
   Case Management
   Homemaking
   Personal Care
   Respite Care
   Health Support
   Emergency Alert Response
   Adult Day Care
   Monthly Caregiver Stipend
   Assisted Living Waiver
   Reimbursement for Consumables and Medical Supplies
   Consumer Directed Care
   Sliding scale co-payment determined by income
 
Behavioral Health:
   
Provides assistance to adults over the age of 60, who have psychiatric
   disabilities and/or substance abuse disorders.

Services include:
   Case Management
   Outreach and Prevention Services
   Brief Screening and Intervention
   Substance Abuse Outpatient Treatment
   Behavioral Health Day Treatment
   Crisis Support Team

Disaster Preparedness/Evacuation
   Provides elders registration assistance for Special Needs Shelters and    
   transportation services.

Volunteer Services Unit
   Recruits volunteers, resources and a variety of services for elders throughout  
   Broward County:
   Friendly Visitors/Senior Companions
   Student and Faith based organization activities
   Home Repair Volunteers
   Donated health care equipment

Customer Relations Unit
   Serves as the "Welcoming Open Door" for accessing all Division services
   Receives all customers to simplify appropriate linkages
   Facilitates prompt screening to identify and prioritize customer needs
   Coordinates individualized and appropriate services
   Follows up to ensure timely and integrated quality response by Division and  
   external agencies
