Pest Control

Pest ControlStructural, human and pet insect pest management is a major concern, and a huge industry in Broward County. Pests like termites, carpenter and other ants, venomous insects, human and pet insect pests, pantry and fabric insects, and a variety of other nuisance insects can all affect our lives on a periodic basis.

The Extension Education Division relies on the research conducted at the University of Florida's, Ft. Lauderdale Research and Education Center and other University of Florida research centers to provide precise management information and training to pest control industry employees and to Broward residents.

Current training, workshops and instructional materials focus upon Integrated Pest Management (IPM) concepts. These techniques, based upon the latest research, can help spotlight the least environmentally damaging, but effective techniques of pest control. Some representative strategies can involve the use of products like insecticidal oils, soaps and baits, altering insect habitats, encouraging or releasing predators, parasites and insect pathogens, and a variety of other activities.
