The Broward County Community Action Agency (CAA) provides assistance to low income Broward County residents through two federally funded programs.
The CSBG funded Self-Sufficiency Case Management Program assists individuals and families in setting goals, learning skills and accessing services they need to become self-sufficient. Services provided include education, training, books, tools, child care, and bus passes. Clients are accepted on the basis of income (125% of poverty level or below) and the desire to achieve.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists low income Broward County residents (150% of federal poverty level or below) who are either disabled, over the age of 60, or have a child age 4 or younger with a once yearly energy bill payment.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) clients must have income below 150% of poverty level to qualify for LIHEAP energy assistance. Payments are made directly to FPL for qualified households. Care to Share funds from FPL are used to supplement LIHEAP funding when these funds have been exhausted. Care to Share eligibility criteria requires that households have a crisis situation and a plan in place to maintain self-sufficiency.
