Proposed Change to Mortgage Credit Certificate Program Will Affect Availability of Affordable Housing

The Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) program which provides benefits to first-time homebuyers and veterans by increasing home ownership affordability through a federal tax credit, is proposed to be eliminated by the United States Congress. The current draft of the tax legislation (H.R.1) will impact the availability of affordable housing programs serving both homeownership and rental markets. Mortgage Credit Certificate Program Provides Tax Relief To Qualified Homebuyers

The Housing Finance Authority’s Mortgage Credit Certificate Program helps to reduce home loan financing costs for qualified homeowners in Broward County, entitling qualified applicants to a federal income tax credit in an amount of up to $2,000 annually.
