SIGN SHOP TECHNICIAN I
NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled work in the production of traffic control signs and markers.
Work involves the fabrication of traffic control signs through the use of computerized sign making equipment, silk screening, vacuum applicator, and other processes. Assignments are received from a superior in the form of oral and written instructions frequently accompanied by sketches. Work is reviewed primarily by the acceptability of the signs produced.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Participates in the work of a small shop crew engaged in fabricating street, traffic and other various signs by using computerized sign making machines, vacuum applicators and other processes.
Maintains records of tests of materials used in the production of signs.
Keeps standard work and cost records; requisitions materials and supplies.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the fabrication of traffic control signs.
Knowledge of methods of preparing plastic, glass and metal surfaces for lettering.
Ability to understand and practice proper work methods and procedures.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and interpret plans and sketches.
Ability to prepare cost estimates and reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; experience in the production of traffic signs; including some experience in the use of computerized sign making equipment and silk screening equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
