ANIMAL CARE OPERATIONS AID

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible work monitoring radio-telephone communications, receiving animal control complaint calls, dispatching of units, and performing related clerical tasks.

Work involves screening of telephone complaints from the public dispatching animal care units, and maintaining required records. Work is reviewed through observation, review of reports, and observation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Answers telephone calls from the public, obtains information regarding complaints, maintains logs and files, and fills out complaint forms.

Checks zone locations and dispatches calls associated with complaints to appropriate field units.

Monitors two-way radio, receives information from animal care field personnel.

Provides information to the public regarding general provisions of the law.

Obtains information and coordinates inter-agency assistance as needed for animal care and regulation field units by contacting various agencies by telephone.

May relieve on front desk as necessary.

May collect monies and issue receipts for animal service fees; maintains logs and files as necessary.

Performs related work as required.

NATURE OF WORK

Some knowledge of proper telephone techniques.

Some knowledge of the operation of a two-way radio.

Some knowledge of the geography of the county.

Ability to acquire knowledge of state and local laws pertaining to animals.

Ability to make arithmetic calculations accurately to determine service fees.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school; some experience in public contact work involving the use of a two-way radio or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
