AIRPORT INFORMATION SPECIALIST
NATURE OF WORK:
This is specialized, independent work involving the operation of the Airport's Central Communications Center and Gate Control functions.
Work involves responsibility for operations of communication and computer systems pertaining to: Airport Security, Fire and Maintenance Systems, Electronic Visual Display System (EVIDS), Gate Control System, Teledesk System, Aircraft Response System, Weather Radar, and General Communications for the Department. Work is concentrated on ensuring a safe, efficient, and secure environment for passengers, airport personnel, vehicles, equipment and the movement of aircraft within established airport policies and procedures and FAA regulations. Duties include working rotating shifts and assignments, including holidays and weekends. Work requires communication with airport users, tenants, federal, state, local government and other agencies. Work is performed within general guidelines and reviewed for compliance within established standards.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
Provides airport tenants and users with information, directions and assistance through various communications systems.
Notifies airport staff of important operational matters by way of telephone, radio and paging systems.
Coordinates usage of County owned gates and ticket counters using GCS software. Completes appropriate reports and issues schedules to tenants and department staff.
Manages and updates the Electric Visual Display System (FIDS, BIDS, ANDS, etc.) as needed.
Coordinates and dispatches appropriate staff regarding safety and security related issues. Logs and reports complaint (i.e., noise, shuttle, etc.) to staff for appropriate follow-up.
Monitors weather radar sets and disseminates severe weather information to tenants and staff.
Maintains surveillance to ensure security system is operational and monitors security system activities for discrepancies, and dispatches law enforcement and other staff as required.
Monitors all automated equipment systems for fire, security and maintenance alarms, making appropriate notifications when necessary.
Assists in the coordination of airport response and notification of essential agencies to respond to emergencies.
Collects, records and compiles information for statistical data on routine and emergency airport conditions relating to safety and security, as well as various operational activities. Disseminates information on airport operational conditions, status of construction in progress, and other pertinent airport activities.
Monitors Communication Center equipment, reports equipment problems; records daily all significant events disseminated to and/or from the Communications Center in computerized logs.
Performs all related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of a modern air carrier airport environment, specialized aircraft requirements and operational parameters.
Knowledge and familiarization of all airport areas, including those of tenant airlines, concessions, etc., and their functions.
Knowledge of safety and security requirements of an airport supporting commercial aviation.
Knowledge of customer service skills and telephone skills and etiquette.
Ability to collect information and maintain accurate records, reports and inventory.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to detect, report and/or correct hazardous conditions.
Ability to utilize various computerized aviation information systems (i.e. Auto Attendant System, 800-Motorola Base Station, ComLog, Digital Voice Recorder, DTN/Kavouras Computer Systems, Dukane Call Box Phone/Annunciator Panel, Emergency Crash Phone, Electronic Visual Display Systems, Teledesk, etc.).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Graduation from high-school or equivalency and two (2) years of experience in communication systems including radio dispatching and scheduling.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
