ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

NATURE OF WORK

This is highly responsible administrative work coordinating and managing the operation of the Facilities Management Division.

Work involves assisting the division head in coordinating, directing, and planning division functions and activities. Work includes assisting and formulating and implementing programs, facility and systems planning and development, and exercising direct administrative control over assigned operations and activities. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative in resolving administrative and technical problems. Work is reviewed through periodic conferences, reports, and evaluation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Assists division director in coordinating, directing and planning the operations of the Facilities Management Division.

Assists and advises division administration on various aspects of facility and systems development including budgetary, personnel, building management operations, security operations, and all requirements for adherence to established policies and principles.effective programs.

Coordinates, plans, and implements cost analysis and cost-effective programs.

Coordinates divisional budgets, purchasing, personnel, and recordkeeping activities.

Makes budgetary recommendations and assists in the preparation of the divisional budget.

Makes recommendations concerning changes in established policies and procedures; interprets established policies and procedures.

Confers with county officials, contractors, vendors, civic leaders, and the general public regarding divisional operations; addresses public groups; attends professional meetings.

Serves as acting director in absence of the director.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of facilities operations and administration.

Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations applicable to public facilities and systems.

Considerable knowledge of established practices and principles used in the administration of operations of public facilities.

Considerable knowledge of basic budgetary, personnel, purchasing principles and procedures.

Ability to coordinate, plan and direct division operations and activities.

Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in the decision making process.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in business administration, engineering, planning, or other related field; considerable experience in the administration and planning of facilities operations, systems and procedures; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
