NATURE OF WORK
This
is supervisory work directing sales and marketing work with the Greater Fort
Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Work
involves developing sales programs and marketing plans for the Convention and
Visitors Bureau.
Employee
directs the day-to-day marketing activities of subordinate sales managers, in
addition to making personal sales presentations to convention accounts, travel
agents and tour operators worldwide.
Work
is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative within
established guidelines. Work is reviewed periodically through conferences,
written reports and observations of results obtained.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Develops
the annual domestic leisure travel marketing plan.
Plans
and coordinates all domestic leisure travel promotions.
Directs
the daily activities of Travel Industry Sales Representatives, provides high
level assistance during execution of promotions and monitors results with
appropriate reports to the President.
Directs
the daily activities of meeting/convention sales managers and monitors results
with appropriate reports.
Provides
counsel and assistance in closing sales with high level major city-wide
convention customers and participates in trade shows/promotions.
Solicits
key convention prospects within a carefully selected territory.
Establishes
and monitors major departmental objectives and individual goals.
Maintains
effective networking relationships within the national leisure travel and local
hospitality industry.
Directs
the international marketing representatives in the development and
implementation of a marketing plan and budget.
Provides
weekly input to the advertising agency regarding leisure travel advertising
matters.
Develops
annual leisure travel promotion budget and monitors implementation.
Develops
internal leisure travel systems and procedures and recruits leisure travel
sales staff as needed.
Performs
related work as required.

knowledge of the principles and practices of tourism and convention marketing.

knowledge of sales and communication techniques.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation
from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work
in marketing, business administration or closely related field; six (6) years
experience in tourism or convention marketing, sales or research including two (2)
years in the supervisory aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of
relevant training and experience.
