MARKETING DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible business development and public relations work in a County division.

Work involves developing and implementing a business development and/or public relations plan for the division. Incumbents plan and administer policies and programs to foster and promote patronage and support. Work includes planning, coordinating and evaluating program activities including the preparation of special events, contracts, advertisements, press releases, brochures, and reports. Employees in this class supervise subordinates engaged in business development and/or public relations activities. Work is performed with independent judgement and initiative within established guidelines. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports and observation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Develops, manages and coordinates a complete program of business development and public relations.

Directs employees engaged in interacting with travel bureaus, businesses and social groups for the purpose of generating revenue.

Maintains effective networking relationships with the local hospitality and leisure services industries.

Contacts executives of organizations to explain services and facilities offered by the division and to solicit their support and business.

Generates new sources of revenues and fees.

Meets with agency staff to determine business development goals and budgets.

Initiates and implements special public relations and business development programs.

Negotiates and coordinates media advertisement placement and content.

Supervises the research and writing of accurate, meaningful and readable copy for publication.

Coordinates the budget for business development and/or marketing and advertising.

Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of special events marketing, communications and public relations.

Considerable knowledge of research techniques used in business development and/or marketing and advertising.

Considerable knowledge of journalistic principles and practices and the techniques of editing publicity materials.

Knowledge of English usage and the requirements of radio and television broadcasters and the press.

Ability to plan, coordinate and implement an effective business development and/or marketing strategy.

Ability to plan and coordinate the work of subordinates.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in marketing, business administration, public relations or related field; considerable experience in marketing, advertising or public relations work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
