CONSUMER RELATIONS SUPERVISOR

NATURE OF WORK

This is highly professional supervisory and administrative work in planning, organizing and directing investigative activities regarding unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Work involves the responsibility for administering various programs and procedures for investigating of consumer complaints to insure adherence to fair trade practices. Supervision is exercised over subordinate professional and clerical staff. Work is performed with considerable latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, reports and evaluation of results achieved.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Coordinates, plans, assigns and supervises consumer investigative activities.

Coordinates and participates in investigations of industries regulated by Broward County Consumer Affairs Division; participates in complex fraud investigations.

Assists staff in informal resolution of business-consumer problems; supervises voluntary compliance program.

Reviews completed investigations and makes recommendations to administrative superior.

Interacts with the media regarding consumer issues and complaints.

Assists in the development and implementation of the Division's consumer education and information program.

Reviews new local, state and federal laws and regulations for administrative application to divisional activities.

Makes recommendation concerning internal policies and procedures to administrative superior.

Coordinates regulatory activities of the Moving Section.

Supervises cash handling procedures for revenues collected from the moving companies who have applied for licenses.

Supervises and directs subordinate professional and clerical staff involved in the investigation of consumer complaints; develops and supervises staff and volunteer training programs.

Performs related work as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of current laws, literature and developments in the consumer protection field.

Thorough knowledge of sales promotion techniques and advertising practices used in the County.

Thorough knowledge of research and analytic techniques and sources of information in the consumer protection field.

Considerable knowledge of modern office methods and procedures.

Ability to conduct investigations and evaluate and review reports of field investigations and enforcement activities for use in litigation.

Ability to plan, assign, coordinate and supervise the work of a staff of professional and clerical employees.

Ability to interpret and apply new local, state and federal legislation to divisional activities.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four-year college of university with major course work in public or business administration or related field; six (6) years experience in customer service/relations and code enforcement, including two (2) years experience in the supervisory aspect of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
