SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD SUPERVISOR
NATURE OF WORK
This is administrative work supervising the County's school crossing guard program.
Work involves reviewing job applications and hiring school crossing guards, appraising employee performance, and supervising crossing guard activities. Duties also include maintaining a training program for school crossing guards. Supervision is exercised over school crossing guards. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior for adherence to established procedures.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Supervises all school crossing guard activities; assigns personnel to posts; monitors performance.
Assists school safety personnel in determining designated crosswalk locations.
Maintains training program to train school crossing guards in proper procedures.
Participates in crossing guard duties as necessary.
Investigates and answers complaints from school officials and parents regarding the school crossing guard program.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of police procedures in controlling pedestrians.
Knowledge of the proper operation of traffic control devices.
Ability to supervise subordinate school crossing guards.
Ability to conduct effective training activities for subordinates.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; experience as a school crossing guard; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
