NATURE OF WORK
This is administrative work assisting in the coordination and administration of specially assigned programs or projects.
Work involves coordinating all activities of a program or project which has operational responsibility of a moderate scope, a moderate budget, and provides a supplementary county service. Work involves serving as a liaison with other county, state, federal, and community agencies. Work requires familiarity with the subject matter of the project but full technical knowledge is not essential as specialists in the various aspects of the operation are utilized for technical assistance. Employees in this class are expected to coordinate and manage operations with independence, although all major decisions are referred to an administrative superior for advice and direction. Supervision is received through conferences with an administrative superior and by adherence to established policies and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over clerical staff and specially assigned technical subordinates. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and program achievements.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from a Special Projects Coordinator I by the responsibility for independent management and coordination of a program or project of moderate scope.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Coordinates and manages all activities of a program or project which has operational responsibility of moderate scope, a medium-sized budget and provides a supplementary county service; supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of specially assigned project personnel and subordinates.
Assumes project responsibility for administering the activities and operations of construction contracts and grant programs; devises project procedures and schedules; prepares project reports and related data.
Provides professional level staff assistance to an administrative superior, division or department head in specially assigned areas of operation; assists and advises on matters pertaining to programs or projects assigned.
Facilitates the accomplishment of work through providing, obtaining and coordinating a variety of services.
Conducts special studies in conjunction with a project; analyzes data and makes recommendations based upon studies.
Provides administrative liaison among various county operational and administrative functions related to an assigned project; interprets and explains policy regulations and operating procedures.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of the principles of management, organization, and administration.
Knowledge of the standard practices in the fields of local government personnel management, budgeting, and accounting.
Knowledge of modern office practices, systems and equipment.
Knowledge of the functions and operations of the unit to which assigned.
Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinates as required by work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public or business administration or field related to area of assignment; two (2) years experience in a staff or administrative capacity appropriate to the area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
