LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
NATURE
OF WORK
This
is professional landscape architectural work in the design and development of
parks, recreational areas, and other county facilities.
Work
involves the application of professional knowledge and skills to the design,
development, and construction of parks, park lands, and related facilities.
Assignments are received in the form of specific requirements or general
objectives and the employee is expected to carry assignments to completion with
considerable independence in accordance with program objectives, professional
standards, and departmental policies and procedures.
Work
is subject to review by an administrative superior for adherence to established
norms.
ILLUSTRATIVE
TASKS
Makes
preliminary field surveys; develops, designs, and drafts layout plans for park
development projects, city beautification projects, and right-of-way
development assignments.
Prepares
maps, sketches, working drawings, and construction plans; prepares cost
estimates, specifications, and bid proposals for contract; inspects and
supervises related construction activities.
Analyzes
landscaping and grounds maintenance problems and recommends planting plans as
appropriate; advises on grading, filling, sloping, seeding, and sodding; makes field inspections and advises on further
development of park areas; inspects nursery stocks and plant materials for
disease, insects, and fungi; recommends corrective measures.
Conducts
research and special studies pertaining to parks development and maintenance;
prepares reports and recommendations for the review of a superior.
Confers
with community groups and individuals interested in park development and
planning.
Performs
related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable
knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture, plant
pathology, and horticulture.
Considerable
knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment employed in
landscape development and maintenance.
Considerable
knowledge of the current literature, trends, and developments in the field of
landscape architecture as related to parks development and maintenance.
Ability
to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
Ability
to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full
accord with the letter and spirit of

to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general
public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse
cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, age,

REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation
from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work
in landscape architecture or horticulture; two (2) years experience in
landscape design and development; or any equivalent combination of relevant
training and experience.

Registration
as a Landscape Architect in the State of
SPECIAL NOTE
In
those instances where a registered architect signs any document for the County
in the performance of his/her regular work, that employee shall be accorded
such protection and immunity from any lawsuit as a result of his/her conduct
within the scope of his/her employment to the extent provided by law.
