EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR
NATURE OF WORK
This is technical and administrative work assisting in the coordination and administration of State Homeland Strategy programs in the Broward Emergency Management Agency.
Work involves providing technical assistance to assigned municipalities on emergency management operation plans, and development of continuity of operation plans in support of the Department of Homeland Security programs. Work involves serving as a liaison with municipal, county, state, federal and community agencies. Work requires familiarity with the subject matter of the project, but full technical knowledge is not essential as specialists in the various aspects of the operations in Broward Emergency Management Agency are utilized as necessary. Employees in this class are expected to coordinate and manage operations with considerable independence, although all major decisions are referred to an administrative superior for advice and direction. Supervision is received through conferences with an administrative superior and by adherence to established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and program achievements.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assists municipal, county, and state partners with planning, training, and operational outreach relating to the implementation of Department of Homeland Security/State Homeland Strategy programs.
Develops action plans, in conjunction with assigned municipalities, for correcting deficiencies in security planning strategies; assists municipalities in completing documentation relating to post disaster assistance.
Develops and delivers emergency management and disaster preparedness education to a variety of audiences.
Assumes project responsibility for administering the activities and operational scope of contracts and grant programs; devises project procedures and schedules; prepares project/progress reports and related data.
Provides assistance to an administrative superior in specially assigned areas of operation and assists and advises on matters pertaining to programs or projects assigned.
Facilitates the accomplishment of work through providing, obtaining and coordinating a variety of services.
Conducts special studies/assessments in conjunction with a project; analyzes data and makes recommendations based upon findings.
Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited (4) year college or university with major course work in public or business administration, emergency management, urban planning or related field; two (2) years experience in emergency management programs, projects, planning or related emergency management work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Ability to pass a security background check. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
