SOCIAL WORKER III

 

NATURE OF WORK

This is supervisory and administrative social case management in a human service environment. Provides supervision, staff scheduling, work assignment, and performance review for subordinate staff.

 

Work involves planning, implementing and administering programs. Ensures that case work is performed in accordance with divisional and regulatory requirements. Exercises considerable independent judgment and decision making in accordance with in approved policies and procedures. Supervision is provided through conferences, reports, and review of results of divisional programs.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS                Tasks may vary slightly based on area of assignment.

Oversees program activities and operations; assigns work and monitors and evaluates performance.

 

Provides case consultation on unusual or difficult cases; approves eligibility for services recommend­ed; makes special recommendations to the appropriate administrative superior for service policy waivers.

 

Ensures that that staff and consumer safety and well-being are maintained.

 

Provides back-up case management and/or counseling in absence of assigned staff member.

 

Reviews case records to evaluate the quality of work and to insure compliance with procedures and requirements.

 

Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the section and agency, as requested and operational goals and objectives.

 

Initiates and reviews program office requests for goods and services.

 

Assists in the development of divisional policies and procedures.

 

Provides in‑service training for staff.

 

Acts as a liaison with community organizations and providers to build integrated networks.

 

Participates on local committees to address human services issues; promotes programs and services within the community.

 

Provides regular case consultation and staffings; facilitates office staff meetings, staff conferences and disseminates information to staff.

 

Assists staff to access and develop community resources.

 

Composes correspondence, narrative and technical reports, and related documentation, using computer-based applications.

 

Conducts staff meetings and trainings. Attends internal and external meetings and conferences.

 

Assists Section Manager or Regional Manager with the development of policies, procedures, and operational documents appropriate to the location and area of assignment. Also provides recommendations for new programs and or program elements and concepts and assists in designing and implementing them as approved.

 

Assists in monitoring the quality of casework and makes recommendations for improvements.

 

May assist in compiling statistical data and preparing analytical reports.

 

Performs related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS           May vary slightly based on area of assignment.

Considerable knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training.

 

Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.

 

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of counseling and crisis intervention.

 

Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment.

 

Considerable knowledge of available governmental, community and private programs and resources.

 

Ability to supervise, train and coordinate the activities of staff engaged in a wide variety of social casework activities.

 

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

 

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in psychology, social work, gerontology, counseling, or other field closely related to the area of assignment; four (4) years of experience in social case work and/or counseling which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to have a valid Florida driver’s license and be able to drive and to obtain and maintain authorization to drive on County business.
