PORT EVERGLADES BUILDING SERVICE WORKER

NATURE OF WORK

This is semi-skilled manual work maintaining, cleaning, and restocking facilities at Port Everglades.

Employee provides janitorial services; cleaning, and maintaining facilities in an orderly condition. Work involves public contact and requires a neat appearance and positive attitude. Work is performed in accordance with established practices pertaining to Port owned and operated buildings. Work is performed under the direction of a superior, but may be required to work independently, as necessary. Work is inspected while in progress and upon completion.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Sweeps, mops, scrubs floors, walls, stairs and offices in buildings and terminal facilities at Port Everglades on a daily basis, as assigned.

Empties office trash, garbage and waste baskets into proper collection bins.

Dusts furniture, walls and office machines and equipment, as required.

Buffs, waxes and polishes tile floors; cleans carpet and upholstery.

Stocks dispensers with paper supplies in lavatories, kitchen area lounges; cleans and disinfects lavatories daily.

Reports any problems with sanitation procedures at buildings to superior.

Washes windows inside and outside.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the standard methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.

Knowledge of cleaning and finishing chemicals and the safety precautions involved in their use.

Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual work.

Ability to work independently, following verbal or written instructions.

Ability to express ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

Skill in the use and care of custodial equipment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school or equivalent recognized certification; six (6) months experience in janitorial or maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. A Florida driver's license at time of appointment.
