PORT EVERGLADES LEAD BUILDING SERVICE WORKER
NATURE OF WORK
This is manual work involving janitorial maintenance and care of offices, bathrooms, terminals, and other Port Everglades facilities and serving as a Lead Worker for a janitorial maintenance crew.
Work involves assisting a maintenance supervisor in planning and scheduling for janitorial maintenance and care of facilities. Employee in this class coordinates the ordering of all janitorial maintenance supplies and all equipment requirements. Employee operates power driven appliances including buffing, waxing, polishing machinery, vacuum cleaners, and other equipment. Work also involves sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, emptying trash, dusting, and stocking of facilities. Work involves public contact and requires a neat appearance and positive attitude. Work is inspected while in progress and upon completion.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
As Lead worker, directs and coordinates the work schedules and activities of a janitorial maintenance crew.
Assists superior with the planning and scheduling for janitorial maintenance and care of facilities.
Monitors janitorial maintenance schedules to insure that work is assigned and makes necessary changes.
Performs regular inspections of all assigned areas and makes a report of conditions to superior.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs floors, walkways, stairs, and offices in buildings and terminal facilities at the Port daily.
Coordinates crew leave schedules with superior and plans for additional staffing needs as required.
Coordinates the ordering of supplies and equipment requirements.
Dusts furniture and office machines as needed; washes windows inside and outside.
Empties waste baskets and office trash into proper collection receptacles.
Stocks dispensers with toilet paper, towels, napkins in lavatories, kitchen area lounges; and cleans and disinfects lavatories daily; reports any problems with sanitation procedures at buildings to superior.
Operates power cleaning equipment with rotating brushes to buff, wax, and polish floors, carpets and tile surfaces.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of janitorial maintenance procedures for a large complex of secured buildings.
Knowledge of the proper use of tools, equipment, cleaners, solvents, chemicals, and other materials used in janitorial maintenance and the safety precautions involved in their use.
Ability to perform manual labor to complete assignments of cleaning floors, stairs and other building areas; ability to perform light to heavy lifting, as needed.
Ability to operate cleaning, waxing, and finishing equipment and machinery.
Ability to work independently, organize work assignments, and supervise crew members.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the Port's customers and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to express ideas effectively.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in operating cleaning and waxing machines and other maintenance equipment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or equivalent recognized certification including or supplemented by education and training in janitorial maintenance; four (4) years experience in janitorial maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. A Florida driver's license at time of appointment.
