PORT EVERGLADES FOREIGN TRADE ZONE WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT
NATURE OF WORK
This is work involving the training and monitoring of assigned tenants and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) users in documentation and inventory control of FTZ merchandise as required by U.S. Customs rules and regulations and FTZ procedures at Port Everglades.
Employee coordinates and reviews for accuracy tenant/ FTZ user-prepared U.S. Customs admission documentation. Employee presents admission documentation to U.S. Customs for approval and maintains perpetual inventory of assigned tenants and FTZ users via FTZ computer system. Specific instructions and close supervision are received at the beginning of work and on new assignments, but regular assignments may be performed more independently and some initiative may be exercised as experience is gained. Work is routinely reviewed in progress or upon completion for accuracy and other standards of performance.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Monitors assigned tenants and Foreign Trade Zone users in documentation and inventory control of FTZ merchandise as required by U.S. Customs rules and regulations and FTZ procedures.
Coordinates and reviews for accuracy tenant and FTZ user-prepared U.S. Customs admission documentation.
Presents admission/ transfer documentation to U.S. Customs for approval.
Maintains perpetual inventory for assigned tenants/ FTZ users via FTZ computer system, including production of reports for the official record/ files.
Performs periodic spot checks of inventory for assigned tenants/ FTZ users to verify that physical inventory quantities are accurately reflected in the computer system.
Coordinates and reviews for accuracy tenant/ FTZ user-prepared U.S. Customs documentation for admissions and withdrawals from inventory; collects completed admissions and transfer documentation for records and distributes to U.S. Customs, carriers and FTZ users.
Assists with training tenant and FTZ user personnel on FTZ procedures and U.S. Customs rules and regulations, including error correction/ problem solving.
Issues security gate passes for carriers and visitors to FTZ.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of personal computers and database management.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and inventory control procedures, including FIFO (First In- First Out) accounting principles.
Some knowledge of U.S. Customs import/export rules and regulations.
Ability to readily learn assigned clerical tasks and to adhere to prescribed procedures.
Ability to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Skill in the operation of computerized equipment and other office machines.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification supplemented by college-level course work in accounting, data processing and/or database management; three (3) years experience in U.S. Customs import/export documentation, complex warehouse/ distribution inventory control or Foreign Trade Zone procedures; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. A valid Florida driver's license at time of appointment.
