PORT
NATURE OF WORK
This is standard
clerical work involving the skilled operation of a typewriter or personal
computer at Port Everglades.
Employee provides
clerical and administrative assistance to staff.
Work involves the
performance of standard filing and typing tasks in accordance with well
established procedures and methods. Work also involves answering telephone
calls and providing relief coverage to the Receptionist on the Port switchboard
during breaks, lunches, and vacations.
Detailed
instructions and close supervision are received at the beginning of work and on
new assignments, but regular assignments may be performed more independently
and some initiative may be exercised as experience is gained. Although skilled
and rapid typing/word processing is an essential duty, assignments vary with
the needs of the division. Work is usually reviewed in progress or upon
completion for accuracy and other standards of performance.
ILLUSTRATIVE
TASKS
Types forms,
letters, memoranda, reports, labels, statements, and other materials from rough
draft, dictating machine, or detailed instructions.
Proofreads
typewritten material for accuracy; fills in forms or form letters with
designated or standard information.
Processes, sorts,
checks for accuracy, and files applications, purchase orders, and other
documents in accordance with established systems.
Maintains receipt
books, daily check deposits, and standard office records.
Operates
photocopying machines, adding machines, fax machines and other office
equipment; also operates switchboard during relief coverage for Receptionist.
Attends a reception
desk in lobby or division, furnishing information and conducting routine
transactions.
Receives incoming
telephone calls, takes messages and supplies information.
Receives small
amounts of monies for minor fees and verifies receipt.
Performs related
work as required.

Knowledge of
personal computers and word processing.
Knowledge of
business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern
office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical techniques.
Ability to readily
learn assigned clerical tasks and to adhere to prescribed routines.
Ability to make
arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to follow
oral and written instructions.

REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high
school; two (2) years of general office support work; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience. A valid
