EXAMINING BOARD TECHNICIAN
NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized clerical and technical work insuring compliance with the County's Central Examining Board regulations.
Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of functions involving dissemination of Examining Board information and related clerical duties to maintain compliance with Examining Board regulations. Work includes taking and transcribing Board meeting minutes. Work is performed independently within established policies and procedures. Guidance and direction are often provided to clerical staff. Work is subject to review upon the request of the Examining Board.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Provides technical information to the general public regarding the Examining Board regulations, examinations, hearings, renewals and other related information.
Answers telephone inquiries, composes correspondence in response to requests for Examining Board information.
Keeps insurance and qualifying agent information current for permit counter.
Prepares Board meeting agendas, takes and transcribes Board meeting minutes; executes the decisions arrived at in Board meetings.
Publishes notices of meetings and examinations; schedules meetings and examinations.
Reviews and processes applications for examinations relative to each Board's requirements.
Reviews and processes renewal applications for certificates of competency cards.
Keeps current alphabetical and numerical file on all persons holding certificates of competency.
Keeps current cross-reference file of all certificate holders by company name.
May provide guidance and direction to clerical staff.
Initiates forms for office use.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of business English and spelling.
Considerable knowledge of the clerical procedures applicable to the Board activity to which assigned.
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Some knowledge of trades contracting terminology and practices.
Ability to compose correspondence, reports and other related documents.
Ability to take and transcribe dictation.
Ability to understand governmental procedures.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
Skill in shorthand and the operation of a typewriter, and/or personal computer.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by course work in shorthand and typing; considerable experience in secretarial and clerical work, including some experience in a trade contracting or related office work setting.
