CITIZEN SERVICE AIDE
NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized independent work assisting with public education efforts in the county's Public Communications Office.
Work involves assisting with the planning, coordinating, and implementation of public information activities. Work includes participating in the dissemination of information to newspapers, broadcast media, and to the general public. Work also includes direct contact with the general public to respond to their information needs. Work is performed on an assignment basis and reviewed through conferences and evaluation of results.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Disseminates press releases to the media.
Develops and maintains media and other lists for information distribution.
Coordinates the collection of information for publications, news articles and press releases..
Assists in the planning and preparations for special events and outreach efforts.
Prepares reports and organizes project files.
Prepares correspondence to citizens.
Assists with the operation of the Governmental Center lobby information desk.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of research techniques, sources, and availability of information.
Knowledge of English usage and the requirements of press and media broadcasts.
Some knowledge of journalistic principles and practices.
Ability to collect and compile data from files and other sources applicable to topic of concern.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the use of the personal computer including word processing and spread sheet programs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
An Associates Degree from an accredited college or university; six (6) months experience in public relations or special event planning; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
