SENIOR DATA CONTROL OPERATOR

 

SUMMARYUnder limited supervision, performs a variety of data entry related work in an assigned agency, with possible lead worker responsibility.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:  This classification is distinguished from a Data Control Operator by the ability to work independently with limited supervision and by the greater experience requirements. 

 

TASKS:

·        Interacts with public, vendors, and/or County staff in order to assist them in using Department services, equipment, programs, and/or facilities, answer questions, identify their service needs or locate missing materials.

·        Troubleshoots data entry/database operation issues in order to identify problems and possible causes, facilitate resolution of problems and maximize effectiveness/efficiency of the data entry process.

·        Retrieves information/summary reports from a variety of databases in order to facilitate data/trend analysis, and/or provide data/information to staff, County officials, and/or the public.

·        Proofreads printouts, summary reports, or on screen data in order to identify data entry errors.

·        Assigns/reviews work of subordinate employees in order to facilitate efficient, effective operation of the unit.

·        Instructs other employees in equipment use, data entry policies/procedures, and/or general office operating policies/procedures in order to facilitate efficient/effective office operation, ensure equipment is operated properly, and/or ensure data is entered/processed correctly.

·        Updates/maintains a variety of databases in order to facilitate information recording, storage, and retrieval and/or to track purchasing activity/volume of work.

·        Performs related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE: (Applicants are expected to possess the required Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below prior to being hired for positions in this job class.)

·        Knowledge of abbreviations/codes to be used in a variety of databases.

·        Knowledge of procedures for operating various office equipment, including personal computers.

·        Ability to work with minimal supervision.

·        Ability to identify errors in account numbers, dates, amounts or related information.

·        Ability to read names, account numbers, amounts and related information on a variety of documents.

·        Ability to read and understand data/information from a variety of computer printouts or related documents.

·        Ability to learn/perform a variety of work activities in assigned agency.

·        Ability to explain/demonstrate procedures for performing a variety of work activities.

·        Ability to enter data into a variety of database applications.

·        Ability to keyboard. 

·        Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.

·        Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County=s Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

·        Skill in entering data into computer with less than 5% error rate.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – NOT REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE BUT EXPECTED TO BE DEVELOPED ON THE JOB:  (The following Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below, although considered to be necessary in order to perform the work of this job title, are not required at time of hire.)

·        Knowledge of abbreviations/codes to be used in a variety of databases.

·        Ability to use a variety of database applications to compile summary statistics/reports.

 

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school; four (4) years of data entry, maintenance, and control, or closely related work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
