PARKS
BEAUTIFICATION OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR
NATURE OF WORK
Performs complex
technical and intermediate administrative work supervising the beautification,
maintenance and landscape compliance in Broward County Parks. Work is performed under supervision. Supervision is exercised over all section
staff.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Oversees all nursery
operations for the Parks and Recreation Division.
Advises park staff
and administration and/or coordinates tree relocation or removal within parks.
Works in coordination
with administration on invasive plant and tree removal in parks.
Advises and/or
coordinates landscape design and maintenance for division parks.
Oversees compliance,
development and maintenance of Landscape Guidelines for parks.
Coordinates
NatureScape Initiative certification within parks.
Makes tours to
inspect and determine the condition and need for horticulture maintenance
within parks.
Works in
coordination with Landscape Architects during planning and planting of new
facilities.
Coordinate
programming for staff education in regards to landscape installation,
maintenance, tree trimming, Landscape Guideline compliance and NatureScape.
Evaluates staff
performance.
Prepares a variety
of reports on activities.
Orders and inspects
supplies and plant materials.
Maintains records of
maintenance and landscaping compliance.
Reviews time cards,
leave requests, and related documents in order to ensure employees are paid
correctly and leave balances are accurate.

Comprehensive knowledge
of forestry, landscaping and horticulture as it relates to parks.
Comprehensive
knowledge of the principals, practices and methods of nursery operations,
landscaping, tree work, and the environmental impact of such practices.
Comprehensive knowledge
of native plants.
Comprehensive
knowledge of the methods and practices with regard to the equipment and tools
used in relation to landscaping and maintenance of parks.
Thorough knowledge
of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to work in parks.
Knowledge of budget
preparation, forecasting and administration of a budget.
The ability to
direct and supervise staff.
The ability to
prepare reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with
staff, administration, contractors and the general public.
Ability to serve the
public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from a four
(4) year accredited college or university with major coursework in
horticulture, environmental science or related field; six (6) years practical
experience supervising, planning and organizing in the field of horticulture or
landscaping and familiarity with native plants and environmental issues; or any
equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
