ELEVATOR SECTION SUPERVISOR
NATURE OF WORK
This
is advanced technical and supervisory work in the enforcement of Chapter 399 of
the Florida Statutes, the Florida Building Code and other related regulations
pertaining to elevator construction and maintenance.
Work
involves planning and organizing the work of the Elevator Section; supervising
Elevator Plans Examiners, Elevator Inspectors and assigned subordinate staff;
reviewing elevator installation plans, blueprints, specifications, and
materials lists to determine compliance with applicable standards and
regulations; and coordinating contractual service agreements. Work is performed with considerable
independence within established codes, regulations, and technical guidelines,
and is reviewed by administrative superiors through conferences and reports.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Develops
work plans, supervises staff and reviews work for compliance with applicable
codes, standards, and regulations within the assigned area of responsibility;
ensures adherence to policies and procedures.
Assists
in the interpretation of law, discussion of difficult problems, and review of
work reports and violation reports; answers code questions and participates in
code committees.
Confers
or corresponds with contractors, engineers, property owners, municipal building
department staff and other interested parties.
Coordinates contractual service agreements for the
Elevator Section, as required.
Provides
for or conducts in-house training classes to subordinates to maintain or
introduce technical updates and procedures.
Produces
reports and provides for maintenance of files and records as required.
Oversees
reviews of elevator installation plans, blueprints, specifications, and
materials lists to determine compliance with applicable standards and
regulations; reviews recommendations of methods, materials, equipment and
alterations to assist in compliance with accepted materials.
Supervises inspections of elevators, escalators and
other lifts by examining cables, safety devices, safety electrical contacts in
connection with safety interlocks, cable shackles and their connections and
overhead construction.
As
required, detects and investigates reported and unreported hazards, possible
safety violations or inadequate conditions and violations. Enforces relevant national,
state, and local laws, codes, ordinances and regulations by issuing warnings
and written notices.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE,

Thorough knowledge of national, state, and local
laws, codes, ordinance, and regulations regarding elevator installation,
operations and maintenance.
Considerable knowledge of building design and
construction. Considerable knowledge of good construction
practices.
Ability
to read and interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, specifications, and diagrams
to determine conformance with established standards.
Ability
to read, understand, explain and apply regulations.
Ability to make technical inspections and render

REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation
from high school; post secondary formal mechanical, electrical, electronics or
related training and six (6) years of experience in performing elevator
maintenance, jurisdictional, acceptance, and accident/incident inspections, and
elevator/escalator repair to include two (2) years of progressively responsible
administrative and supervisory experience and one (1) year of experience in the
plan review and inspection of elevator and escalator installations.
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Certification as an ANSI/ASME Qualified Elevator
Inspector (QEI) with the ability to obtain a Supervisor Level QEI certification
within 12 months of hire.
Possession
of a Certificate of Competency as an Elevator Inspector issued by the State of
Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Possession
of a Certified Inspectors License as specified in Chapter 399, Florida
Statutes.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
