EXTENSION AGENT II
NATURE OF WORK
This
is professional work developing and implementing educational programs in the
areas of Urban Horticulture, Commercial Horticulture, 4-H Youth Development,
Entrepreneurship Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Marine Science
with specific emphasis on an effort to ensure the application of this
knowledge.
An
employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for planning,
organizing and presenting educational programs to interested individuals and
groups.
Work
involves coordinating with the Program Leader, the Division Director and the
District Director to plan and implement programs. The emphasis of the work is
on promoting quality programs through public information and instruction.
Work
is performed under the general supervision of the Director of the Extension
Education Division.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This
classification is distinguished from the Extension Agent I by the requirement
for a Master’s Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in
Extension.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Plans,
implements and conducts educational programs in designated program area to
assist people to more effectively interpret and use findings of science and
technology.
Works
with the program advisory committee to analyze the county situation and
identify priority problems; designs and implements a variety of program
delivery methods to reach target clientele.
Plans,
assigns and supervises the work of subordinate staff and volunteers.
Provides
technical assistance to businesses, homeowners, 4-H Clubs, farmers, civic
organizations, horticultural groups and other interested parties and groups.
Identifies,
recruits and trains volunteer leaders to carry out the program of work in the
county.
Provides
leadership in coordinating extension programs on a countywide basis.
Develops
and uses appropriate systems for reporting program accomplishments.
Conducts
clinics and classes to educate and inform individuals and groups on related
subjects of interest.
Receives
requests for assistance or programs; prepares analyses and evaluations of
programs; makes recommendations regarding changes or modifications in existing
programs.
Assists
in determining and obtaining resources needed to implement the plan of work.
Establishes
and maintains rapport with personnel of the mass media and arranges for
appropriate releases in the program area.
Performs
related work as required.

Considerable
knowledge of the policies, procedures and administration of programs of the
United States Department of Agriculture, Florida Cooperative Extension Service
and
Considerable
knowledge of current principles and practices of volunteer educational
programming and evaluation.
Considerable
knowledge of human sciences, public and private programs available to the
community and methods of utilizing these resources to assist in program
delivery.
Considerable
knowledge of the principles and practices of management, organization, program
administration, public communication and education.
Considerable
knowledge and understanding of multi-cultural and ethnic segments of the
population.
Knowledge
of current regulations and procedures related to federal, state and local grant
procedures.
Ability
to initiate and manage multiple programs and priorities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
A
Master’s Degree in education, public or business administration, sociology,
psychology, family and consumer sciences, horticulture, agriculture or related
field as appropriate for assigned position; five (5) years experience in
development and management of direct service delivery programs, including two
(2) years experience in educational program development; or any equivalent
combination of relevant training and experience
