OUTDOOR STRUCTURES

TOP TIPS

  • All non-secured items may become airborne projectiles during high winds.
  • Remove or secure all outdoor structures.

BUILDINGS OR SHEDS

  • Any outdoor structures, such as sheds, should be installed according to code. If not, and time permits, remove structure.

PATIO SCREENS

Patio screens will have a tendency to pop out in winds over 75 miles per hour.

  • If possible, remove patio screens by pulling out the spline which secures the screen to the structure. This allows the wind in without causing damage to either the screen or the structure.
  • After the storm, screens can be reassembled by replacing the spline.

SATELLITE DISHES

Satellite dishes should be installed according to code. If possible, remove and secure indoors. Otherwise, to secure for a storm:

  • If movable, lower to base setting.
  • Turn dish away from the wind.

SOLAR UNITS

  • It is not necessary to remove solar units that are attached to the roof of a building prior to a storm if they have been installed properly.

TURBINES

  • Prior to a hurricane, roof turbines should be removed and replaced with a sheet metal cap.
