The Harambee Room is one of the most elaborate features of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. The term "harambee" - which means let's pull together in Swahili - reflects Broward County's diversity and unified spirit as well as the community support and appreciation of AARLCC. The Harambee Room, located on the first floor in a uniquely designed circular space, features intricately designed panel artwork comprised of digital prints on canvas. Each of the lush panels represents a different theme: People of Broward, Heroes and Pioneers; Civil Rights Struggles; Black National Anthem and Diaspora. The blue-tiled terrazzo floor forms a free-flowing abstract pattern of waves - a yellow stripe that signifies the Middle Passage route of the slave ships from West Africa across the Atlantic Ocean to America runs through the center, providing a unifying design element that also encompasses great meaning.

South Florida-based artist Gary L. Moore, who was commissioned to create The Harambee by the Public Art and Design Program, began his exploration into African Art and culture while still a teenager. He went on to study at the University of Miami as well as the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, and has received the National Empowerment for the Arts Design for Transportation National Award (1996), a Research Fellowship at the University of Miami (1991) and a Florida State Fellowship in Painting (1989). Gary Moore utilized his artistic background along with personal and collective history, to incorporate a southern vernacular to the Harambee Room, making it both a personal and community statement of shared heritage and pride.
