Chapter One: Our Global Community
Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Broward County Library’s story begins with people. During 2006–2007, community-driven programs and events, designed to appeal to the many and varied wants and needs of multicultural, multiethnic, and multigenerational Broward County, brought thousands into the library.

Debut of the Alex Haley Special Collection – January 5
A special event marked the first official viewing of hand-corrected manuscripts, letters, and personal treasures from Alex Haley.

First Anime Convention – January 6
The first Anime Convention drew thousands of teens for speakers, movies, artists, and a special costume contest.

Sand Mandala, Drepung Gomang Monastery – February 2 through 6
A beautiful sand mandala was created and then given back to nature.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! – March 3
Hundreds of children celebrated this very special birthday.

Children’s BookFest – April 27 & 28
Broward County Library celebrated Children’s Day/Book Day (Día de los niños/ Día de los libros) with special performers, arts and crafts, storybook characters, and authors.

Pan African Bookfest and Cultural Conference – April 11 through April 21
Drawing internationally-known speakers, artists, and authors, this year’s event celebrated the rich history of the African Diaspora.

Books ‘n’ Bears at the Holidays – December
Making the holidays brighter, children received a gently used teddy bear and a new book.
