Director’s Message
Robert E. Cannon, Director,
Broward County Library
As the director of Broward County Library, it is my privilege to introduce Broward County Library’s 2006-2007 Annual Report.
Now in its third decade, as Broward County Library grows and matures,
more chapters have been added to the report to unfold our evolving story. This fiscal year emphasized service – service to our community and customers, to the hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children in Broward County who depend on the library to meet their educational, informational, and cultural needs.
We’ve dedicated our year – and our library – to providing the residents of Broward County with the resources needed to propel our community into the twenty-first century and beyond. As attendance and usage of our libraries increase, we strive to continually serve all populations of Broward County by promoting literacy information and information for all,
and encouraging
a love of reading and
an appreciation of
books.
As Broward County grows and changes, becoming more diverse and multicultural than ever, we look toward Broward County Library to lead the way – onward, upward, and outward.
Mayor’s Message
Mayor Josephus
Eggelletion, Jr.
It has been another stellar year for Broward County Library, a year of growth, progress, and an unwavering commitment to serving the people of Broward County. Broward County Library provides so much for so many – as one of the
top-ten-largest libraries in the nation, it successfully serves a diverse community of many cultures, languages, and people.
With an eye toward the future, Broward County Library continues to expand and grow, breaking ground in November for a new library branch in Miramar and opening the first LEED-certified green building in Broward County, the South Regional/BCC Library.
Library services have increased as well Broward County Library offers
at no charge and in various languages: English and computer courses,
tax-preparation information, small-business counseling, homework help, cultural programs, and more at its locations throughout Broward County.
As the Mayor of Broward County, I am proud to salute Broward County Library and to commend them on yet another year of service to our community and its residents.
