Books Give Us Wings at the Children's BookFest
In order to reach children and families countywide, The Children's BookFest was held at three BCL locations this year. On April 26, North Regional/Broward College Library in Coconut Creek, South Regional/Broward College Library in Pembroke Pines, and West Regional Library in Plantation opened their doors to children of all ages for an exciting day of stories and books.
The Children's BookFest featured three wonderful storytellers - Grammy-winning storyteller Bill Harley and bilingual storytellers Olga Loya and Carrie Sue Ayvar - that wowed the crowds with fantastic and funny tales. Interactive musical shows included Mr. Brian & the Boppets and "Reading on the Farm" with Mr. Pig & Bully.
Poetry came alive this year at the Children's BookFest with visits from Children's Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky and celebrated Salvadoran poet and children's author Jorge Argueta. Poets Alive!, a poetry/performance group from Asheville, North Carolina were also on hand to share rhymes with an enraptured crowd.
