"Behind Our Eyes" readersTake a look "Behind Our Eyes" at Main Library

Main Library presented a special program March 31, 2008 spotlighting the book Behind Our Eyes, an anthology of essays, poems, and short stories relating to the various authors' experiences with confronting and living with their individual disabilities.

The Behind Our Eyes event included readings from the book by community volunteers, display tables from providers of services to the disables, and visits from Seeing Eye dogs.
 

The Maltese Falcon detectiveThe Big Read Goes Noir with Dashiell Hammet's The Maltese Falcon

This month, Broward County Library participated in The Big Read, a community-wide reading initiative sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. March's program focused on Dashiell Hammet's classic noir novel The Maltese Falcon.

Highlighted events included an interactive murder mystery show, Murder @ the Library; a special movie screening of The Maltese Falcon starring Humphrey Bogart; and panel discussions with bestselling authors Barbara Parker, Les Standiford and James W. Hall.

Aspiring mystery writers enjoyed a writing contest at West Regional Library and the "21st Century Noir Writing Workshop" with author Lynne Barrett.

Children Musicians from the Suzuki Music Academy PerformChildren Musicians Perform at Northwest Regional

On March 29, 2008, Northwest Regional Library hosted a classical music concert with young performers from the Suzuki Music Academy. Violinists and pianists, ages 2-16, celebrated springtime with a program that included favorites from Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven and Dvorak as well as traditional children's songs. Richard Coff, the Academy's director, also gave a brief lecture and demonstration on "The Suzuki Method
and Formal Music Training from Age Two."
