Broward County Library Welcomes its
10 Millionth Customer
On September 23, North Regional/Broward College in Coconut Creek welcomed Broward County Library's 10 millionth customer. In 35 years, Broward County Library has grown from a handful of loosely affiliated city libraries into a countywide system with 37 locations that serves hundreds of customers a day. The lucky library guest, Patti Campbell, home schools her children and is a regular user of North Regional/Broward College Library. On that red-letter day, Patti was accompanied by her three children, Bridget (10), Brendan (8), and Mattie (3), and was received by Regional Library Manager Debbie Passalacqua. Patti was given a beautiful commemorative certificate as well as a "goody bag" filled with library mementos.

South Regional/Broward College Brings Buenos Aires to Broward with Cine Argentino
Multiculturalism took center stage this month at Cine Argentino, a month-long film festival celebrating the cinema of Argentina. Four of Argentina's most popular movies were shown during the event, which took place at 2 p.m. on each Sunday in September.
Cine Argentino screened a wide range of movies including thrillers such as La Invitacion, which follows the difficult dealings of an arms dealer; the heart-warming Las Manos, about a priest with a gift for healing; Senora De Nadie, the sizzling tale of a woman betrayed; and Tiempo De Revancha, an ode to unappreciated employees everywhere.
The event was hosted by well-known Argentine actress/journalist Adriana Blanco, and attracted legions of film fans to the festival, which was co-sponsored by the Consulado General de la Republica Argentina en Miami.

Science Gets Wacky at Northwest Branch
Students participating in Northwest Branch's Afterschool @ Your Library got a hands-on wildlife experience with Wacky Science, a special program that brought wildlife up close and personal to the lucky children. In a safe and controlled environment, the students were able to get a true feel for the animals native to South Florida.
