Focus on Friends - Friends of the West Regional Library

The Friends of the West Regional Library was founded in 1984 and continues today to support library projects and serve as a catalyst for library advocacy.

Ongoing services they provide include a book fair which raises funds for the library, and a Friends newsletter.

As a special project, the group sponsors an annual holiday gift wrapping event at a local Barnes & Noble store.

The Friends support all youth services programs including the annual International Festival, Florida College Night and the summer-long Florida Library Youth Program.

In their efforts toward library advocacy, the Friends of the West Regional Library provide financial assistance for Broward County Library staff members and Friends to attend Library Day in Tallahassee, and the annual American Library Association and Florida Library Association conferences.

At the 2005 Friends of the Library Luncheon and Awards, the group won awards for "Support of Staff Training and Development," "Support of Staff Who Do Not Have a Friends Group" and "Support of Youth Programming."
