2006 Florida Artists' Book Prize

Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library, and the Florida Center for the Book, are pleased to announce the continuing sponsorship of the annual Florida Artists' Book Prize.

The ninth annual prize of $2,000 will be awarded in 2007. An exhibition of a selection of the entries and an award ceremony will be held in the early Spring of 2007, in the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

CRITERIA FOR ENTRY

• The entry must be created or published in an edition (i.e., more than one copy), but cannot be a trade edition (i.e., produced commercially by a publishing house for sale nationally or internationally) nor can it be a one-of-a-kind.
• The artist's primary residence must be the State of Florida.
• The book entered in the competition must have been created or published in the calendar year 2006.
• Completed entry forms and a copy of each book must be received in the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library by January 15th, 2007.

The prize-winning artists' book becomes the property of the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library. All other books entered will be returned after the judging, except those titles selected for inclusion in the Florida Artists' Book Prize Exhibition, which will tentatively be held in the galleries of the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library from mid-February to late-March 2007. The retained books will be returned after the end of the exhibition run.

The prize will be administered jointly by the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book: The Dianne and Michael Bienes Special Collections and Rare Book Library and the Florida Center for the Book. It will be adjudicated in late January of 2007 by a jury comprised of: Ruth & Marvin Sackner, of the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry (Miami Beach, FL); Arthur Jaffe of Florida Atlantic University's Arthur and Mata Jaffe Collection of Books As Aesthetic Objects (Boca Raton, FL); and Jean Trebbi, former director of Florida Center for the Book.
