Opening Reception for the Esther Rolle Special Collection
On October 27, Broward County Library officially celebrated the reception for the viewing of a Special Collection - Let the "Good Times" Rolle: Esther Rolle Collection Exhibit.  A large crowd listened to speeches from Esther Rolle's family and viewed this special collection which includes memorabilia and Esther Rolle's Academy Award.

Black History Month
On April 10, the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), in partnership with Love 94 and Brandsmart USA, announced the winners of the 2006 Black History Month Essay Contest. Jeffery B. Williams, 2nd grader from Rock Island Elementary; 5th grader Tori McNealy of Pembroke Pines Charter East; 8th grader Tanasia Nelson of Nova Middle School; and 11th grader Michelle Harvey of Dillard High School were chosen among 778 entries received throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties.

Each winner was awarded a new Compaq laptop computer and printer and other computer supplies.

Role Models Event
Samuel Morrison, former Director of Broward County Library, was honored on March 3 at the Role Models, A Tribute to Arts and Culture Event at The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass. The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center was one of seven institutions to participate in the ribbon-cutting gala for The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass.

1 Millionth Customer
The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center opened its doors to customer number one million in February 2006, making it one of the most-visited library locations in the county.

"We are thrilled that the community has embraced the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), and we would like to encourage more visitors to see all of the excellent programs and services the center offers," said Julie Hunter, Executive Director of AARLCC.
