Ground Breaking - November 30, 2006
Broward County Library Director Robert E. Cannon was emcee for the ground breaking for the new Miramar Branch Library and Education Center. The program of speakers represented the Broward County Commission, the City of Miramar, the Broward County Library Advisory Board, the Broward Public Library Foundation, and educational partners, Broward Community College and Nova Southeastern University. Following the program, the speakers walked down to the construction site and posed with hard hats and shovels for the traditional groundbreaking photograph.

The Dedication Ceremony was led by Robert E. Cannon, Director of Broward County Libraries Division. The Miramar Color Guard gave the Presentation of Colors, which was followed by brief remarks by community leaders including Broward County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin, City of Miramar Mayor Lori C. Moseley, Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr., Nova Southeastern University Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer George L. Handbury II, Ph.D., Dorothy Klein, Executive Director of the Broward Public Library Foundation, Evelyn Grooms, President of the Friends of Broward County Libraries, Broward County Construction Management Division Director Ed Maurice, and Director of Broward County Cultural Division Mary Becht.
