Check Out Being Green
Every time you use your local library, you are helping the environment by sharing resources. If you want to have a green lifestyle, follow these simple steps and reduce your ecological footprint.
1 - Share Books - Most books are only read once; instead of rushing out to buy the latest bestseller, why not go online to your library’s website and order it from your library? If they don’t have it in stock, you can easily place a hold on the book and then browse for other titles you might like. Like to order books from online sites? Make a smarter choice and use your library – you’ll save money, and the environment will be spared more refuse.
Broward County Library also offers The New York Times ® Best Sellers lists with direct links to place a hold. Visit www.broward.org/library and click on Best Sellers List in the right navigational bar.
2 - DVDs and CDs - Disc formats contain harmful chemicals that seep into the environment. Go paperless and have Broward County Library e-mail you the newest movie, music, and audiobook lists. You can place a hold and have the materials sent to any library of your choice when they become available. To sign up, visit www.broward.org/library and click on New Movies/
|
Music/Books/Audiobooks in the right
navigational bar.
3 - Go Green with Research - Use your local library to help you find exactly what information you are researching for a paper or project --
then save the .PDF versions of the articles directly to your computer or thumb drive. Think about how much paper you can save.
4 - Computer Classes - Not sure how to use
e-mail or resources such as Microsoft Word or Excel? Broward County Library offers an array
of instructor-based classes to help you become computer and Internet savvy.
5 - Don’t throw books or magazine away! Donate your old books to your local library. The Friends of the Library can use those materials. With 37 library locations throughout Broward County, there is a library near your work, home, grocery store, or favorite place to hang out.
