"I really should read more
there's just never seems
to be time for it." We've all heard (or made) that excuse,
but summertime, with its lazy vacation days and slowed-down work
pace, is the perfect time to join other literary-minded souls
to get together to read and discuss books of all genres and subjects.
Many BCL locations have regular book clubs; at AARLCC, you can
join Sanofka Book Club to discuss the sizzling bestseller Confessions
of a Video Vixen or meet at Tyrone Bryant Book Club to talk
about Steve Harvey's new dating advice book Think Like a Lady,
Act Like a Man. Lovers of classics and literary fiction can
join Galt Ocean Mile's book discussion on Emma by Jane
Austen, A Mercy by Toni Morrison at West Regional, or The
Reader by Bernhard Schlink this month.
Specialized book discussions like Knit Lit Book Club at West Regional
focus on crafty fiction for fiber fans (How to Make an American
Quilt is June's pick); if inspirational fiction is your choice,
Bereans Book Club at Lauderhill Towne Center's June selection
is The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner. Visit West Regional
Mystery Fiction Book Club for a talk about Janet Evanovich's One
for the Money, or join the Spanish Book Club at Miramar as
they discuss Doña Barbara by Romula Gallegos. Really
pressed for time? Dania Beach Paul DeMaio offers a Short Story
Discussion group that will read Roman Fever by Edith Wharton
this month.

In June, you can also meet authors Elaine Viets at Main (Killer
Cuts - A Dead-End Job Mystery); Telford Fletcher at Lauderhill
Towne Centre (Between Those Hills of Jamaica); Peter Ferguson
(Changemakers: 101 Portraits of Men in Jamaica) and Lisa
Unger (Die For You) at South Regional/BC. Local authors
Patrick Kendrick (Papa's Problem) and Charvella Campbell
(Hush Girl Sweet Girl) will read and sign books at Tamarac
Branch.
Teens and children can also participate in book clubs at Jan Moran
Collier City Learning Library, Hollywood Branch, Northwest Branch,
Northwest Regional, West Regional, and Weston Branch.
Find book clubs anytime online. Visit http://www.broward.org/library/
and click on Book Clubs in the right navigation bar. Each month,
the library's book clubs are organized to make it even easier
for you.
