AARLCC Celebrates
Fourth Anniversary
This month, the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) will celebrate its fourth anniversary, a milestone to be marked by a week of programs, events and festivities. Opened in 2002, AARLCC has become the epicenter of the community, a symbol of progress in the historical Sistrunk Boulevard area. |

From October 21 – 28, AARLCC will present a series of programs, “Community Pride and Heritage: Revisiting the Harlem Renaissance. The programs will cover subjects such as “Focus on the Family” and “Voices of the Harlem Renaissance,” which features actors in character as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and James Weldon Johnson discussing their work, their lives and each other. On October 26, an all-day celebration is planned that will focus on the history of AARLCC – its past, its present and its future.
Additionally, on October 27 AARLCC will host a reception, “Let the Good Times Rolle,” to celebrate the opening of the Esther Rolle Collection exhibit. Rolle, the actress best known for her role as Florida in the sitcoms Maude and Good Times, was born and raised in Pompano.
