December 2004

The rededication ceremony for the Imperial Point Library was held Wednesday, December 8th. The library was closed several months for renovations that are part of the $139.9 million library bond issue approved by Broward County voters in 1999. Improvements include a new ADA restroom and computers, a new learning services center and group study room, new lighting system, enlarged youth services area and

November 2004

Broward County Library is providing the Supervisor of Elections seven of 14 Early Voting sites (the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Main Library, Pompano Beach and Tamarac Branch Libraries; Northwest and Southwest Regional Libraries and North Regional/BCC Library) allowing tens of thousands of voters to vote before Election Day, November 2.

Effective October 25, the renewal function for library materials will be calculated from the date the item is due (not, as previously, from the date the renewal is made).

During the last 12 months, over 13,000 volunteers contributed over 126,000 hours of service to the Broward County Library.

October 2004

As a product of the 1999 voter approved library bond program, a new branch library in Lauderhill was dedicated September 9. The Lauderdale Towne Centre library, 10,000 square feet in size, featuring children's and adult computer areas, thousands of new books and audio-visual materials, a meeting room and a helpful, expert staff was opened to the public. This library is the first of several 10,000 square foot libraries that will be constructed with 1999 bond funds.

September 2004

Beginning in August, Broward County Libraries will be installing computer "time and print" management software. This software allows staff and public to reserve time on library computers and keep track of that time. It allows for greatly improved control and accuracy for the thousands of pages printed from library computers every day.

August 2004

For the accuracy and reliability of the information collected and for the safety and security of staff and public alike, photo identification is now required when registration and application for a library card is requested. Over the last several months, the Broward County Library has also made its files of card registrations and catalog records much more accurate.
