Millions of Seconds
by Jessica Loman
A clock ticks
The gear clicks
A second hand moves
The world spun
Will it again?
The sun rose
Will it once more?
She's failing math
He's wishing he wasn't there
Someone's hurt
Someone won the lottery
Someone's sick
Someone wishes he was
Someone just died
Someone was just born
He's hiding for his life
She's hiding behind the smile
Civilization is wearing itself out
Killing itself off
Will his mother ever stop drinking?
She can't understand the Science homework
He's being attacked serving his country
Wars and fights rage on
While he cries in silent darkness
One voice is heard
Only one voice is heard
Pollution and the greenhouse effect
Drugs, alcohol and violence are taking over
Earth is coming apart at the seams
And another second passes…
