More than one million customers own
a Broward County Library. A standard library card is almost 3.5 inches wide.
If you took one million cards and placed them in a line that would reach 55 miles – more than twice the length of the beaches in Broward County and longer than the entire width of Broward County.

Broward County Library’s African-American Research Library and
Cultural Center (AARLCC) is one of
only a handful of specialized research libraries in the U.S. This magnificent facility is located on historic Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. AARLCC is a treasure for researchers in the
State of Florida and across the entire nation. With one-of-a-kind Special Collections, including unfinished manuscripts from Alex Haley, Esther Rolle’s actual Emmy award, and
original oil paintings from the Hewitts,
this library is a treasure not to be
missed. AARLCC also offers 75,000
books and related materials on people of African descent.
