> May 7 - Opening Exhibit and Reception for Artist - In honor of Haitian Cultural Heritage
Month. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the South Regional-BCC

> May 10 - Writers Critique/Support Group - For novice writers who want one-on-one help. Bring
work, 10 pages maximum, and copies. All levels of experience, any genre, are welcome.
Peter Kerr-Jarrett will be the facilitator, and group will be kept small for personal attention.

> May 17 - Nia Book Discussion: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - Set in
Afghanistan, the story twists and turns its way through the turmoil and chaos that ensued
following the fall of the monarchy in 1973, but focuses mainly on the lives of two women,
thrown together by fate. 3 to 4 p.m.

> May 3 - Signing Stories @ your library®: American Sign Language Literacy Festival -
Presentations by Quest 4 Arts of Gallaudet University, Chorus of Hands, and Miss Deaf Florida.
Children's activities will include entertainment by a deaf magician, a "Fun with Fabric" theatrical
workshop, arts and crafts, and story time in both voice and ASL. The festival will also feature
deaf resources exhibits and a children's arts contest. Voice and ASL interpreting will be offered
for all activities. Sponsored by the Broward Public Library Foundation in partnership with
Broward County Library and the Alliance for Families with Deaf Children. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
> May 4 - India Day - The Association of Performing Arts of India will present a cultural program
of classical Indian dancers. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the South
Regional/BCC Library. Funded by the Broward County Library Foundation, Newcomers New
Americans, and American Express. 2 to 3 p.m.
> May 5 - Home Ownership Workshop - "Want to become an informed, empowered consumer
pursuing home ownership, or want to learn how to survive today's market as a homeowner?"
Title-business-owner Rachael Craig-Dunn will provide important information about home
ownership. 6 to 8 p.m.
> May 6 - Practically LEEDing the Way - An evening of discussion of real-world examples of the
use of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. Brian Lomel
of TLC and Rob Hink of The Spinnaker Group, two of the leading practitioners of LEED in our
region, will be discussing their past and current projects. 6 to 8 p.m.
> May 28 - Preventative Veterinary Medicine - How do you know if your pet is getting sick? What
types of diseases can your pet get and how to avoid them? Join Dr. Melissa Adamson, D.V.M.,
as she discusses pet health. 6 to 7 p.m.
Film and Movies
> May 15 - South Regional Film Club: Horror of Dracula - Dr. Van Helsing, battles the vilest
creature of the night to ever walk the streets of Karlstadt in this 1958 film.
(International/independent films shown every third Thursday.) 7 to 9 p.m.
> May 22 - South Regional Film Club: Horror of Dracula - Dr. Van Helsing, a Doctor of Philosophy
and Metaphysics, who believes in the existence of vampires, battles the vilest creature of the
night to ever walk the streets of Karlstadt in this 1958 film. (International/Independent films
are shown every third Thursday.) 7 to 9 p.m.
