The New Weston Branch Library
Smiles and excitement filled the air at the Dedication Ceremony for the new Weston Branch Library on Thursday, February 16. Speakers throughout Broward County joined children from Everglades Elementary School and the musical group Brazilian Voices to celebrate the opening of the new Broward County Library and Broward Community College (BCC), Weston Center.
More than 200 people gathered for the opening of the new two-story, 50,000 square-foot library, which has a 100-seat multipurpose room, 75 public use computers, and a 24-seat computer lab. A story room for children, a young adult area, four tutoring rooms, a quiet study room, a conference room and an outside drive up book drop are also available. The second floor has 10 classrooms, offices and conference rooms for BCC. The site will provide 320 parking spaces.
The entire library has shelving capacity adequate for a collection of 100,000 volumes of library materials including a variety of foreign language materials for adults and children in Spanish and Portuguese, large number of picture books and beginning readers for young children, the largest collections of bestsellers of any branch library, a large audiovisual collection and an extensive large-print collection.
