Broward County Library, an award-winning system, has more than three million items in its collection and convenient locations throughout the county. Nearly ten million people utilize the library's vast resources and services each year. Use this helpful guide to uncover the endless possibilities waiting for you at your Broward County Library.
How do I:
Apply for a library card online: Back to top
- All Broward County residents can apply for a free library card.
- Broward County Library has a convenient online application for its library card. Every page on the library's Web site has a Library Card button at the top of the left navigation bar. Click here to access this service.
Check the status of my library card online: Back to top
- The library's Web site offers a My Account link in the left navigation bar of every Web page, so customers always have access to their library accounts. My Account will show the library materials that you have currently checked out, with corresponding due dates, the materials you have on hold and their pending status, as well as any balances.
- To view your library account online, you will need your library card number, the spelling of your last name, and the last four digits of the telephone number associated with your library card account.

- Broward County Library's online Catalog is available 24/7. The Catalog link is available on every page of the library's Web site. To search the catalog, enter the title of the material you are searching for, the author's name, or search by subject. Once you find the material that you want to check out, you can place a hold online and have the library material sent to a Broward County Library of your choice when it becomes available. - Broward County Library also offers a new Visual Catalog to make your search for materials even easier. The Visual Catalog allows customers to search for materials by keyword, and the search results will appear in a Word Cloud. Click here to try the Visual Catalog.
- Children can use Broward County Library's Kids Catalog that has information just for kids. Click here to see the Kids Catalog.
- Broward County Library's e-mail lists can keep you informed of the newest movies, music, and audio books. The lists are updated in a .pdf version and e-mailed directly to your e-mail address. Click here to view the lists and sign up for this service.

- Broward County Library has 37 libraries throughout the county. Click on Library Locations in the left navigation bar of any page to view a helpful grid with hours and contact information. On that grid you can click on a library name to find out more details about the library, view photos, and see upcoming program information.
- The library also offers a quick zip code search to find the libraries in your vicinity. Click here to search by zip code.

Place a hold:
Renew selected materials: Back to top
- Placing a hold online or renewing selected materials over the Web is easy. When searching the online Catalog, click on the Place hold(s) link in the left navigation bar. You will need your library card number, your last name, and the last four digits of the telephone number associated with your library card. You can then select the Broward County Library location you want the item sent to for pick up when it is available.
- To renew selected materials, log in to your library card account. Click on items checked out and then check the box(es) of the material(s) you want to renew. Click on Renew selected items and you will be advised if renewal is available and the new due date. Click here to view step-by-step instructions for these helpful services.

- Library materials can be returned to any Broward County Library location -- not just the one where the material was checked out. Almost all the libraries also offer drive-through book returns for added convenience.

- Adults and teens can volunteer at Broward County Library. Teens can earn their community service hours in a safe and friendly environment. Click on Teen Volunteer Orientations in the right navigation bar. Upcoming orientations for the next few months will be listed by location.
