Celebrate Women's History Month. In 1987, Congress designated March as Women's History Month to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women worldwide.


This March, take the time to commemorate Women's History Month by attending special Women's History Month Programs. Click here to download a .pdf version of Broward County Library's brochure, Women's History Month 2006.  You'll find outstanding program and event information as well as a useful bibliography.

Political Partners in Florida: First Ladies, by Martha Steinkamp, of the Florida Chapter of the National Council of Hispanic Women. A 20-minute video from the Museum of Florida History highlights the activities of the past eight first ladies of Florida. Participants will be asked to write and share a paragraph describing their individual ideas regarding the role of a first lady.

Broward County Library, Broward County Historical Commission and Partners for Women with presenting sponsor the Miami Herald invite you to the International Women’s Day Reception “Celebrating Women’s Leadership: Recognizing Women Leaders in Broward County Honoring the Unsung Heroines of Broward County.” The Honorary Chair of the event is Broward County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin. Florida Center for the Book Presents: An Afternoon with Zora Neale Hurston
Portrayed by Phyllis McEwen, get to know anthropologist, folklorist and writer Zora Neale Hurston as she tells the stories and sings the songs that she collected in the turpentine camps and the jook joints during her work with the Works Progress Administration in Florida in the 1920s and 30s. Sponsored by the Friends of the Tamarac Library, Friends of the Stirling Road Branch Library and the Florida Humanities Council.
