WHERE do roads, bike paths, sidewalks, and bridges come from?
A
group of grownups called the
Broward County MPO
(which stands for Metropolitan Planning Organization)
make a list of ideas.
This helps them decide where to put new bike trails, sidewalks, roads,
and even bridges. This
list also can include projects with trains.

This list is called the LRTP, which
means "Long Range Transportation Plan."
This list covers 25 years! (That is a pretty big wish list!)

WHAT
is a Pedestrian?
A
pedestrian is anybody who is walking. When you are walking on a sidewalk
or crossing the street, you are called a pedestrian.
WHAT
is a Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan?
This
is a plan that the MPO uses to make decisions about places for
people to walk and ride their bikes.
WHO
decides what goes on the LRTP idea list for transportation projects?
The
people decide what is important! Anyone can ask that a project be added
to the LRTP. That includes your mom, dad, and any other grownup. They
let their elected officials know by writting letters, speaking to them
at public meetings, sending emails and other ways of communicating what
is needed in a community.
WHEN
does the MPO Board meet?
The
MPO Board are the leaders of the MPO. They meet one time every month at
9:30 am. (always on the second Thursday of the month.)
WHERE
does the MPO Board meet?
The
people on the MPO Board meet in the Broward County Governmental Center,
Room 422 in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
WHY
does the public need to be involved in the MPO?
Because
everybody uses the roads, buses, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities. It
is important for everybody to be involved. That means everybody has an
opinion and should have a voice in transportation.
WHERE
does the money for transportation projects come from?
The
money mainly comes from the government which means it comes from people
like your parents who pay taxes. Also, sometimes, some of the money can
come from donations made by large companies.
