Integrated Water Resources Plan

Broward's County-wide Integrated Water Resources Plan (IWRP) is the local water management community's approach to addressing water resource management over the next ten years. Because it's our local water plan, it's specifically designed to address Broward's unique hydrologic conditions and the changing needs of Everglades restoration and regional water resource management.

The goals of the Broward County Integrated Water Resources Plan (IWRP) are to:

1) Coordinate the sources and users of water for effective and efficient local water management; and

2) Work with the water producers to meet the County's present and future urban water needs.

To accomplish these goals, the IWRP has relied on a phased approach that addresses four plan components:

  • Natural System Integration
  • Canal System Integration
  • Utility System Integration
  • Policy Integration

Because the Cities and our Water Control Districts do such a great job, it's easy to overlook the hard work that goes into managing our water resources today and tomorrow. And, because water supply has been so reliable, it's easy to take it for granted. Still, how we manage resources will determine how much water we have in the future, the quality and cost of that water, the level of flood protection and the recovery of the Everglades.

Our Integrated Water Resources website is presently under construction. We plan to have this portion of our site ready for you in January. Please come back and visit us then. In the meantime, please visit our NatureScape website to learn about environmentally friendly landscaping. There, you'll learn how you can make a substantial difference in the quality and quantity of our water resources while creating wildlife habitat.
